MAZE PICTURES is an independent production company based in Munich and Berlin, with holdings in RED BALLOON FILM and SUPERNIX. The team behind Maze Pictures works with its extensive network in the international film and television industry and pours its experience into the development, co-/production and realisation of unique stories, aimed at a global and diverse audience. 

 

Our first theatrical feature film, THE HAPPY PRINCE, a directorial debut by Rupert Everett and starring Colin Firth, premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and was released in theaters worldwide. Action-comedy GUNS AKIMBO, starring Daniel Radcliffe, screened at TIFF 2019 and turned into a platform hit. SIBERIA, directed by Abel Ferrara and starring Willem Dafoe premiered at the 2020 Berlinale. Ferrara's subsequent feature film ZEROS AND ONES, starring Ethan Hawke, was a big success at Locarno in 202, winning him the award for Best Director. Our first two seasons of the German-Dutch-Norwegian fantasy TV series HEIRS OF THE NIGHT won numerous kid's and youth awards. With our French partners at StoriaTV and France2 we’ve been realizing the bestseller adaptation of THE CRIMSON RIVERS as an eight- part TV series since 2019, now in its fourth season. In 2022 our co-production SUNSHINE EYES, directed by Maria von Heland, won the Special Jury Prize at Series Mania and went on to stream Netflix. Our Bavarian series HIMMEL, HERRGOTT, SAKRAMENT, directed by Franz Xaver Bogner, celebrated an extremely successful series launch on German television in 2023 and is currently streaming on Amazon. Our two big screen debuts THREE LIVES LONG by Felicitas Korn and Big Audience Award winner ANOTHER GERMAN TANK STORY by Jannis Alexander Kiefer are currently being completed. Abel Ferrara's new documentary TURN IN THE WOUND, dealing with the state of Ukraine, celebrated its world premiere at the Berlinale in 2024. Our German-Canadian co-production RUMOURS, an ensemble comedy starring Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander, celebrated its world premiere at Cannes in 2024 and is currently in theatrical release.

 

Through our subsidiary SUPERNIX, we have recently co-produced the remake of THE CROW, featuring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs, as well as the highly anticipated RETURN TO SILENT HILL, a sequel to the acclaimed horror film series, directed by Christophe Gans. Currently, we are in post-production for the action blockbuster CLIFFHANGER, starring Pierce Brosnan and Lily James, alongside the second season of the hit series NINE PERFECT STRANGERS, once again headlined by Nicole Kidman. Additionally, we are developing RIDDICK: FURYA, marking the start of the new year with another significant international co-production.
